Situated in the Southern part of the United States is the state of Mississippi. The Mississippi river flows along the western boundary of the state and indeed the name of the state is derived from the river. Neighboring Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas and Gulf of Mexico, the state of Mississippi is composed almost entirely of lowlands and having numerous rivers running along the state, namely the Big Black River, the Pearl River, the Pascaqoula River, the Yazoo River as well as the Tombiqbee River.

Mississippi has long summer and short, mild winter, typical humid subtropical climate. There are not much temperature difference across the state in summer but in winter. Late summer and autumn are the seasons that the state would be impacted by hurricanes and tornadoes.

These seven National Parks are Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, Effigy Mounds National Monument, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, Vicksburg National Military Park, Natchez National Historic Park, New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park, and Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve.

The Mississippi National River and Recreation Area protect and interpret the Mississippi river. This national park includes the river itself. This recreation area is important for the cultural, scientific and economic resources.

Also called MNRRA for short, it was established in 1988 as a partnership park because of the dozen partners who owned the land. The park has many attractions, trails and programs that visitors enjoy.

The Effigy Mounds National Monument has three prehistoric sites to preserve. It forms the cluster heart of some protected areas. It has a number of state owned wildlife. This is a point of transition from eastern hardwood forests to central prairies.

The monument has a visitor center that houses museum exhibits highlighting archaeological and natural specimens. There is also an auditorium and book sale outlet. It is interesting to note that the park has no roads despite of eleven miles of hiking trails. Even if there are great natural features in this park, they have no lodging or camping facilities. Visitors would have to lodge or camp in the nearby parks.

The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park was established to commemorate historical events of the debate over slaves, the first civil government, and the Louisiana Purchase.

The Vicksburg National Military Park commemorates the Vicksburg campaign that preceded a historical battle, giving USA control over the Mississippi river. The park has preserved the site of this battle.

The Natchez National Historical Park consists of three distinct parts: Fort Rosalie, William Johnson House and Melrose. The fort is closed to the public.

The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park was created in 1994 to commemorate the origins and evolution of jazz. It has a complete office, visitor center and concert venue. This park was designed to educate and entertain, promoting the history and progress of jazz.

The Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve was made to promote the natural and cultural resources. It consists of six physically separated sites and one park headquarters.

Aside from the national parks that visitors frequent, the Mississippi River is also famous for water skiing. The sport was actually invented here, first tried in Lake Pepin, a wide region located between Minnesota and Wisconsin.

When deciding on a Mississippi cruise, you have a series of different alternatives. Besides the obvious ones, such as length and itinerary, you should also spare a thought to whether you want a historical or themed trip, and on if you prefer spending time in towns and cities, or in the unspoilt countryside.

If you like history, you will enjoy a trip on a traditional paddleboat, which usually comes with live entertainment that has a 200 year old tradition. Paddleboats usually travel on fixed schedules and dock at the region’s most famous cities, such as New Orleans or St. Louis, so that the passengers may indulge in some sightseeing.

The three steamboats offering historical Mississippi River cruises are the American Queen, the Delta Queen, and the Mississippi Queen.

A themed cruise on the other hand is more oriented towards a specific subject, for example Big Band, Jazz, Civil War, and Cajun. Riverboat cruises offer very different experiences to passengers.

You can participate in bluegrass celebrations. You can experience the region’s Native American culture. Battle sites from the Civil War abound on Mississippi cruises.

Even the themed cruises, though, often have a link to the area’s varied past. Often there will be a guide accompanying you and telling you about the local heritage.

Also, don’t forget to take the season of your trip into account. Some seasons are better suited for families or couples; others are more appealing to groups of friends, or to those inclining to solitary pursuits.

A Mississippi cruise during the autumn is perfect to discover the changes in nature at a more intimate pace, such as the impressive variety in leaf coloring. You will enjoy the foods of the season, which will include roasted game, apple cider and pumpkin pie. Usually there are onboard talks or that will help you understand and identify the plants and animals surrounding you.

Mississippi features a unique blend of urban and rural communities that will both take you back in history and satisfy your contemporary tastes. February is mild and there are a variety of attractions and activities to take part in. The Aberdeen Visitors Bureau has arranged a drive of over 50 historic homes in the area. Visitors should stop by the bureau and pick up a brochure that will direct you through this self-guided driving tour. Many of the homes are available for tours as well. Inquire on the homes to see which ones require appointments for viewing.

Brice’s Crossroads National Battlefield is located in Baldwyn. The Confederate cavalry was under the control General Nathan Bedford when the Union troops defeated them on this battlefield and force them to withdrawal to Tennessee. The visitor’s center offers information on two battlefield trails, five markers, two cemeteries, flag exhibits and various historical bookstores and galleries. Auto tours are available year round.

Over 200 resident artists call Old Town Bay St. Louis home. The streets of Old Town feature antique shops, art galleries, boutiques, gift shops and a variety of restaurants. Shops are open until 8 pm in the evenings and sponsor live entertainment on Saturdays. The St. Augustine Seminary and Grotto is also located in Bay St. Louis. The church and seminary were relocated from Greenville in 1920. This the oldest Roman Catholic Seminary in the United States used to train and ordain African-Americans for priesthood. Open year round and tours are available by appointment.

In Biloxi you find the impressive 65-foot cast iron Biloxi Lighthouse. The lighthouse has been used since 1848. The lighthouse is one of the most photographed sites in the Gulf. The lighthouse may require appointments for tours. The Cunningham House is the location where the Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest planned the Battle of Brices Crossroads victory. The house is located in Booneville.

Sure you want everybody at the party to notice your arrival, so you hire a limousine service. First off how sure are you that the limo service you’ve hired is trustworthy and reliable? It may seem that an inexpensive or unlicensed limousine service provider is more convenient to hire yes, you are wrong. Why? Do you think that if an accident should happen the company would have a contingency plan or recourse? I’ll give you tips in picking the right limousine service provider.

First off, we all know that you’re hiring a limo because it’s stylish. But there are many types of limos like SUVs, stretched, sedan and the infamous party bus where literally the party takes place in the bus itself. So you should pick the size and type of the limo according to the event you are going to attend.

Next, it is vital to know if the limousine company is properly insured and licensed, in order to get more information and know more of their reputation, you can ask people who regularly use limousines in your area. Also, ask about their contingency plans if ever you encounter problems with the driver or the service and limo itself. In the other hand you should also review their cancellation policies because you yourself might be the cause of the problem (e.g. schedule, number of passengers and even change of location or route)

Regarding the payments, before you proceed with any transaction, ask if they accept credit cards. If so, request them to fax or snail mail the receipts or files to you after the operation. Prices can vary based on the current demand (prom or wedding season) and also with the type of limousine you are going to rent. It’s also advisable to ask your local hotels and airports for advice because you can generally get a better price range from them.

Another crucial thing to consider is to make sure that you are getting the limousine you asked for. Check beforehand if it is clean and comfortable. Your style points will surely dwindle if you overlook these things. Be sure you address your questions before you are picked up to avoid conflict with management. If you are planning to bring a pet a long, it is but wise to ask the company before hand regarding their policies bringing pets on board.

Some of the best fishing can actually be had in the winter months, and there are several lakes to choose from as your preferred location.

Barnett Reservoir is a 33,000-acre lake, but in the winter, you’ll find most of the fishing is done in about 50 acres of water. Mississippi crappie fishing enthusiasts will crowd into the upper lake area referred to as Welfare Hole, fishing for the strong crappie population. Due to the bottleneck created at the nearby highway bridge, crappie are attracted to the area and held here, seeking shelter from the current. Though just about anyone could catch a fish here, Mississippi crappie fishing during the winter is most efficient with an electronic depth finder to locate large schools, as well as a lot of patience. Barnett’s spillway also offers great fishing opportunities after a large release of water at the dam. Pelahatchie Creek on the east side of the dam also provides great Mississippi crappie fishing, with anglers targeting the banks where crappie can find deep cover. Eagle Lake is another excellent location to find crappie. It’s a landlocked oxbow off the Mississippi River close to Vicksburg, famous for producing 10- and 12-inch fish in two years’ time, which is faster than any other lake in the state, according to studies by biologists. Eagle Lake is optimal for pre-spawn winter Mississippi crappie fishing because large females move out of the river channel for shelter. During these times, you can troll for an hour or two and catch your limit. For the best success, troll the deeper waters away from the owner piers, where they regularly deplete the supply in the brush along the banks. According to some sources, the crappie here prefer to remain about 14-15 feet deep in 20-foot deep waters.
