The river valley is bordered mainly by river bluffs or to some Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa mountain peaks and summits. The views are breathtaking. There’s late spring when everything is turning green, the warm summers, and the colors of fall. You can see wildlife of all kinds from a small turtle to a large black bear. The fishing is always great and so are the stories about the big one that got away.

The best house-boating, in our opinion, is located between the cities of Prairie Du Chien, WI to the south, and Red Wing, MN to the north. This part of the river valley has many cities and towns located along it that offer access to tourism, entertainment, and restaurants. Some of them only have docks that are large enough to tie up to so you can venture into town. All of the cities and towns have their own festivals and fairs throughout the house-boating season.

The Mississippi River valley has an abundance of sandbars for everyone to have such pleasures as campfires, swimming, camping with tents, fishing, or just anchoring to it and relax.

House-boating the Mississippi River valley is easy to navigate with red and green markers, called buoys, that show where the main channel is so there is little risk of hitting any obstructions under water. Houseboating on the river offers an unique experience of being able to go through a Mississippi Lock and Dam which was built by the US Army Corps of Engineers starting in 1930. You can even watch a large commercial barge go through the locks and get an understanding of how the navigation system works on the Mississippi River.

House-boating the Mississippi River valley is an unique and enjoyable experience for the whole family and friends.

Whether you call it Old Man River, the Mighty Mississippi, or just the Mississippi River, it is the largest and longest river in the country, if you include its main tributary, the Missouri River. Most people do not think of the Mississippi River as a place to fish, rather a muddy, polluted, channelized waterway. It is true that the river is deeply damaged, but it still manages to offer unparalleled fishing opportunities even to this day.

The lakes are known for producing excellent largemouth bass fishing, as well as large catfish and bluegill. They generally have slow current, which makes boating simpler than the rest of the Mississippi River. Almost every tail race of these lakes is known for world class walleye and white bass angling. Boating a safe distance from the dam, and dropping jigs or night crawlers works well for both species. The tail races of these dams are also well known for being good places to snag paddle fish.

The locks and dams end sometime above the city of St. Louis. Walleye and White Bass begin to thin out, and catfish become the main quarry of anglers. At the mouth of the Missouri River at Columbia Bottoms Conservation Areas, the Mississippi’s best catfish water begins. Channel Catfish are the most common, but the river is most famous for record catches of Blue Catfish and Flathead Catfish. As a matter of fact, the Mississippi river several miles downstream of St. Louis recently produced an all-tackle world record blue catfish to an Illinois angler. Fish in the thirty to fifty pound range are not abnormal at all.

The lower Mississippi (generally the term given to the Mississippi River downstream of St. Louis), holds the best catfish populations in the nation. They are not the only species to target, however. The river provides excellent fishing opportunities for carp, gar, freshwater drum, bowfin (also known as grinnel) and bluegill. Although these species are not usually held in high regard, they can all be great fun to catch. Largemouth bass can be found in the main channel. Heavy current and silty water limits bass populations in the main river, but a patient angler can find enough to make it worthwhile. The extremely muddy water effectively limits fisherman to live bait presentations. Night crawlers, crayfish, and minnows are good options. The slow water upstream of wing dams tends to be a good bet. Better largemouth bass fishing will be found in the slough-like backwaters of the river.

When Mississippi is mentioned, most people think of the deep South with small towns, farmland, and plenty of forest life. The “Magnolia State” is often thought of for its natural beauty. With such a vast array of nature, there are plenty of reasons why you should try tent camping in Mississippi.

Clarkco State Park is located in Quitman, Mississippi and is home to plenty of outdoor camping fun. These 815 acres of woodlands feature 15 camping sites, all located near water. Numerous picnic areas with grills and playgrounds are great for family recreation. A five mile nature trail is available for the avid hikers, along with 65 acres of fresh water for fishing and boating.

In Walnut Grove, Golden Memorial State Park offers a more historic aspect of camping. This camp site was once home to a post Civil War one-room school house, and historians have worked hard to preserve this natural piece of beauty in Mississippi. Golden Memorial State Park offers 6 tent decks, all with running water. Nature trails and picnic areas are available, along with a 15 acre lake for fishing.

There are 61 primitive camp sites available at Great River Road State Park in Rosedale, Mississippi. There are 28 picnic sites with grills and tables that overlook the beautiful Mississippi River. Fishing in this famous river is also an option to campers. There is a 1 1/2 mile hiking trail and several sports facilities like softball fields and an 18 hole disc golf course. Great River Road holds annual events like disc golf tournaments from March through October.

Mississippi – home to a culture and a river that are so important, they have influenced works of art, writing, and song. This Southern state is a great place to take your next lovers’ trip – whether you plan to go out and see the sights, such as the many plantations around Natchez, or just stay in and enjoy each other. Side trips to spots like Vicksburg National Military Park are sure to be interesting to any history buff, and there are many other places along the way to enjoy the state’s rich Civil War history. Romantic destinations in Mississippi can bring a touch of the Old South into your next vacation.

The area around Natchez, Mississippi is particularly rich in beautiful bed and breakfast retreats. Here, plantations and other Antebellum homes are showcased, giving visitors an idea of earlier times. One example is the Burn Antebellum Bed and Breakfast Inn in Natchez. This home, built in 1834, is a prime vision of a Greek Revival residence built before the Civil War. With seven guest rooms (each with private bath) and a full Plantation style breakfast each morning, you will definitely feel like you are back in the first half of the 1800′s. Also on site are a swimming pool, fountain and a brick patio that is both relaxing and unique.

The Burn Antebellum Inn also offers packages that are fit for any romantic destinations in Mississippi. The Simply Elegant package not only includes excellent accommodations at the Inn, but also many extras to make your stay memorable. Complimentary soft drinks, as well as beer and wine are included with your package stay, as well as a five course dinner at a local restaurant. A horse drawn carriage ride through the historic streets of Natchez will be something that you won’t soon forget.

Another great spot located within Natchez, Mississippi is the Devereaux Shields House, located in the Natchez Historic District. This house was built in 1893 so it is a bit more recent than others in the surrounding area, but the Devereaux Shields House still manages to show a lot of antique charm. Two guest room suites are located in the main house here, and four are in the cottage – and all of the rooms include access to the beautifully maintained and manicured grounds, the delicious gourmet breakfasts and romance packages.

Besides the obvious ones, such as length and itinerary, you should also spare a thought to whether you want a historical or themed trip, and on if you prefer spending time in towns and cities, or in the unspoilt countryside.

If you like history, you will enjoy a trip on a traditional paddleboat, which usually comes with live entertainment that has a 200 year old tradition. Paddleboats usually travel on fixed schedules and dock at the region’s most famous cities, such as New Orleans or St. Louis, so that the passengers may indulge in some sightseeing.

The three steamboats offering historical Mississippi River cruises are the American Queen, the Delta Queen, and the Mississippi Queen.

A themed cruise on the other hand is more oriented towards a specific subject, for example Big Band, Jazz, Civil War, and Cajun. Riverboat cruises offer very different experiences to passengers.

You can participate in bluegrass celebrations. You can experience the region’s Native American culture. Battle sites from the Civil War abound on Mississippi cruises.

Even the themed cruises, though, often have a link to the area’s varied past. Often there will be a guide accompanying you and telling you about the local heritage.

Also, don’t forget to take the season of your trip into account. Some seasons are better suited for families or couples; others are more appealing to groups of friends, or to those inclining to solitary pursuits.

A Mississippi cruise during the autumn is perfect to discover the changes in nature at a more intimate pace, such as the impressive variety in leaf coloring. You will enjoy the foods of the season, which will include roasted game, apple cider and pumpkin pie. Usually there are onboard talks or that will help you understand and identify the plants and animals surrounding you.

Mississippi features a unique blend of urban and rural communities that will both take you back in history and satisfy your contemporary tastes. February is mild and there are a variety of attractions and activities to take part in. The Aberdeen Visitors Bureau has arranged a drive of over 50 historic homes in the area. Visitors should stop by the bureau and pick up a brochure that will direct you through this self-guided driving tour. Many of the homes are available for tours as well. Inquire on the homes to see which ones require appointments for viewing.

Brice’s Crossroads National Battlefield is located in Baldwyn. The Confederate cavalry was under the control General Nathan Bedford when the Union troops defeated them on this battlefield and force them to withdrawal to Tennessee. The visitor’s center offers information on two battlefield trails, five markers, two cemeteries, flag exhibits and various historical bookstores and galleries. Auto tours are available year round.

Over 200 resident artists call Old Town Bay St. Louis home. The streets of Old Town feature antique shops, art galleries, boutiques, gift shops and a variety of restaurants. Shops are open until 8 pm in the evenings and sponsor live entertainment on Saturdays. The St. Augustine Seminary and Grotto is also located in Bay St. Louis. The church and seminary were relocated from Greenville in 1920. This the oldest Roman Catholic Seminary in the United States used to train and ordain African-Americans for priesthood. Open year round and tours are available by appointment.

In Biloxi you find the impressive 65-foot cast iron Biloxi Lighthouse. The lighthouse has been used since 1848. The lighthouse is one of the most photographed sites in the Gulf. The lighthouse may require appointments for tours. The Cunningham House is the location where the Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest planned the Battle of Brices Crossroads victory. The house is located in Booneville.

Getting married nowadays can be a costly occasion and food is probably the most costly so you will want to make sure you choose one of the top wedding catering services that will provide a spread that is as memorable as the vows you take. Before choosing a caterer in Mississippi and signing a contract you need to ask some questions such as:

• Is the caterer able to organize a tasting session of the foods you are interested in before you make a decision to hire the company as a reputable company nearly always obliges

• Check the price range and make sure you have a list of what is included in the price range such as price per head, tax, linens and glasses etc

• Does the company provide tables and chairs as well as place settings and all the crockery etc and if they do make sure the equipment is acceptable

• Who is the person in charge and will this person over see the catering on your wedding day if not request to see the person who will be working on your wedding day

• Make sure the company is not over booked on the same day as your wedding as this might cause them to oversee certain things

• Ask if here is any additional cost for waiters and how the waiters will be attending

• Are the wedding catering services insured and are they licensed and do they meet with the specified health requirements. Ask If they serve alcohol if yes and do they have a liquor license

• Find out if you can manage the bar separately as this will save you money. Ask for references and get the contact information. Ask if they provide the wedding cake and if there is a cake cutting charge

All these questions are relevant as you don’t want to end up with a nasty surprise or a bill you never budgeted for from the wedding catering services. Your wedding reception should be perfect in every way and should also blend with the theme you have chosen.

Sure you want everybody at the party to notice your arrival, so you hire a limousine service. First off how sure are you that the limo service you’ve hired is trustworthy and reliable? It may seem that an inexpensive or unlicensed limousine service provider is more convenient to hire yes, you are wrong. Why? Do you think that if an accident should happen the company would have a contingency plan or recourse? I’ll give you tips in picking the right limousine service provider.

First off, we all know that you’re hiring a limo because it’s stylish. But there are many types of limos like SUVs, stretched, sedan and the infamous party bus where literally the party takes place in the bus itself. So you should pick the size and type of the limo according to the event you are going to attend.

Next, it is vital to know if the limousine company is properly insured and licensed, in order to get more information and know more of their reputation, you can ask people who regularly use limousines in your area. Also, ask about their contingency plans if ever you encounter problems with the driver or the service and limo itself. In the other hand you should also review their cancellation policies because you yourself might be the cause of the problem (e.g. schedule, number of passengers and even change of location or route)

Regarding the payments, before you proceed with any transaction, ask if they accept credit cards. If so, request them to fax or snail mail the receipts or files to you after the operation. Prices can vary based on the current demand (prom or wedding season) and also with the type of limousine you are going to rent. It’s also advisable to ask your local hotels and airports for advice because you can generally get a better price range from them.

Another crucial thing to consider is to make sure that you are getting the limousine you asked for. Check beforehand if it is clean and comfortable. Your style points will surely dwindle if you overlook these things. Be sure you address your questions before you are picked up to avoid conflict with management. If you are planning to bring a pet a long, it is but wise to ask the company before hand regarding their policies bringing pets on board.

Mississippi is a state known for having a classic southern style. Mississippi real estate is some of the cheapest in the land. Named after the Mississippi River, Mississippi is a state holding on to its history. Much of the state is farmland and even the towns and cities seem to have eschewed modern development for a more familiar past. In an odd bit of trivia, the state is the biggest producer of upholstered furniture in the country. It goes without saying that Mississippi is a state with a turbulent history, particularly during the civil rights movement. The state was the quintessential southern state and plantations and antebellum mansions can still be found throughout the state. Racial relations have come a long way, which has left the state with the glorious culture of the old south without as many of the racial issues.

Jackson is the state capital of Mississippi and a hidden gem in the south. The city has somehow managed to mesh old southern hospitality with a rapidly growing high tech industry. While that sounds like an odd mix, it works. In fact, Jackson has been voted one of the most livable cities in America by numerous publications. Jackson is a town with a lot to offer from both a cultural and practical perspective. There are 11 colleges in town, a symphony, opera and multiple museums covering the history of the south and the civil rights movement.

Tupelo is known best for being the birthplace of Elvis Presley. With a celebrity like that, Tupelo has made a major effort to capitalize on the fame. Tourists flock to the city to see the first home, school and so on of the infamous one. Notwithstanding Elvis, Tupelo is a pleasant city with golf courses and such. There isn’t much to recommend it nor is there much to criticize. Mississippi real estate is universally very inexpensive. A home in Tupelo will set you back roughly $160,000 while you’ll pay $220,000 in Jackson. In 2005, Mississippi real estate appreciated at a disappointing 5.5 percent, one of the lowest rates in the nation.
